Our Fire Pit

Several years ago, we fancied up our fire pit by laying flagstone that we happily took off of someone's hands who wanted to get rid of it. We bought a big rock and a few stones to make a ring for the actual fire. Then we bought some shrubs from the bargain bin at a local greenhouse, planted some yuccas that seem to think we live on the mountainsides of California (hardy things they are!), and called it a sweet spot for evening hot dog roasts. Last year, it was used oh maybe three times. Between the uncooperative weather and doing two to three photo shoots a weekend, there wasn't much pyrotechnics going on. So, the fire pit became overgrown and very weedy.

Time to change things up this year! The Engineer, and Bub spent lots of hours out there, lifting, sorting, and moving stone. Spreading screenings, and laying stone back down again. It looks great and now I don't have to drag the picnic table back and forth anymore when I mow the lawn. Woo hoo! Hooray for hardworking husbands and sons and a job well done! It looks awesome again!!

** Edited to show the finished project. (Gramma complained this morning that she wanted to see it when it was all finished. It was dark last night when I wrote this post, and I had no photo of it all completed, so I remedied that this morning. Not sure why the wheel barrow and a few other asst'd items are still sitting there...).

  1. I've always wanted a fire pit. I think I spotted a supervisor overseeing the job.
