Randomness

It's rare that I blog on a Saturday morning these days, but my family is glued to the television watching the Holland Japan World Cup game. I'm more of a Brazil fan, so I'm content to listen to the game from another room. Too much of those vuvzelas drive me crazy anyways.

I spent yesterday watching six children swim in the pool, attempting to clean my house in between, and grocery shopping in the evening with four children who were awesome helpers. We had ice cream for supper, and pesto (with fresh basil from my garden already!) on marble rye bread for dessert.

It was hot and humid yesterday!! Our central air once again doesn't work (4th year in a row something is wrong with it), so when the Engineer arrived home from Houston, we jumped in the pool to cool down. It's so fun to swim at night. We haven't been able to do it for the last two years because our weather had been so unseasonably cool. We chatted and watched the fireflies flitting about the yard.

Today we will do a bit of yardwork, go to the Engineer's work to drop off the company car, go to a greenhouse near the city, to pick up our Eastern Redbud shrub for a suggested donation that will in turn support Haiti, go to Wendy's Restaurant for a frosty to support the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Yum! It's going to be another hot and humid day, so we will definitely enjoy our frostys.

Right now, I am going to make jam. We've had a bumper crop of strawberries from the garden, but not enough to make jam because we keep eating them, so I was lazy and bought fresh local berries when we did groceries last night. Time to make jam!

  1. Oh that all sounds glorious! Well, except the hot AND humid part...

Love the night-time swim! Most homes here don't have AC. About one or two weeks a year we wish we did, though!

Wyatt still remembers a hot, hot, hot night when he was little. I picked him up out of his bed, after 10 at night, and threw him in our kiddie pool in his underwear!

    Enjoy those delicious looking strawberries!

  2. Thanks for the tip about Wendy's today--we might have to head there to support a great cause. And congrats on the news. You will be a wonderful mom to six!

  4. How fun to splash in the pool at night! Do you light torches?
Jam. Great idea! I should try that, but I'd have to buy berries, too.
I hate that buzz of the World Cup, too. I can't stand it.
I'm thinking of you, praying for the movement you are anticipating, and I pause to thank Jesus for your kindred heart. (BIG HUG)
