Fourteen Months

I was doing so well! Fourteen months with no knock me down, drag me out migranes. That is until this weekend. I had a nagging headache on Friday already that escalated while we were out doing a photo shoot. By the time we got home, all I wanted to do was take some meds and go to sleep. I was up through the night to shut windows because we were getting more rain and I felt fine. At 6:00 am I was feeling rotten, but some more meds helped and I made it through the day in an okay fashion. I felt good all evening, went to bed, slept like a log, and woke at 6:00 am again with my head pounding! It's silly that I am on here typing about it when I feel so awful, but sometimes I have to have a distraction just to get my emotions under control. Today I awoke with the nausea and the chills too. These commonly accompany me when I awake with a doozie. I'm sure before the day is over, I will go get to visit my friendly emergency room. For now, I wait and writhe while my dear family attends church without me...

**Edited to note: I am thankful to say that I did not have to go to the emerg for a Torridol shot. I had a good sleep yet while my family was at church and it seemed to abate after that. Life could be enjoyed again.

A little note regarding the question Naptime Seamstress asked me about the Cdn. medical system. It does not cost us to go to the emergency room and our family doctors typically only work certain hours during a regular work week. It is usually very hard to get into the family doctor on short notice, so many Canadians often go to a walk in clinic or emergency room instead. I have however been able to fanagle my way into the doctor's office on very short notice. In the case of needing a migrane shot though, the emergency room is my best option as my doctor does not have prescription medications in his office. As for pediatricians or dermatologists we are unable to use them unless we are referred by our family doctor. Hope this makes sense and feel free to ask more questions. I guess every healthcare system has its pluses and minuses.

  2. I'm sorry to hear you suffer from migraines! I do hope it passes quickly.

Do you not have family doctors or a "primary care physician" in Canada? I've heard various things about Canadian healthcare, but have no real understanding about it. This is the second time (the first being your daughter's rash, I think) that you've mentioned going to the ER for something I'd have called a family dr. or pediatrician or dermatologist about.

  3. Oh sorry to hear your down and out we shall have to swap ideas I suffer from migraines as well sometimes they last 3 days! And I have spent a large portion of my life in bed with a terrible amount of time suffering from these so I can completely relate to how you are feeling. I have tried some different things that definitely have helped but I have not had any complete healing from them. Praying that you feel better very soon.

  4. Sorry about your setback...hopefully it's just a fluke. Maybe you are coming down with something and it triggered a random migraine. Hopefully they stay away for 14+ months again! Did you end up at the ER?
