Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window: overcast, rain, and chilly. Everything is still very green for the end of July.

I am thinking: that I had better make a list for the stuff that needs to get done this week.

I am thankful: for a quiet Sunday after a very busy Saturday.

In the kitchen: Caesar salad with lettuce from the garden, spicy mango salad with cilantro and jalepenos from the garden, and a fresh cucumber from the garden. Mmmm, I love when we can start eating from the garden.

I am wearing: sweatpants, tank top, sweatshirt, flip flops. It's cold here today and I'm at the pool until almost 11:00. (Swimming lessons start today for the four youngest.)

I am creating: prairie bonnets. Yes, I am at the sewing machine. :o)

I am going: back and forth to the pool, to  the City to get the Boy's prescription sunglasses, (It's very hard to lifeguard when you need glasses to see and the sun is glaring off the water. It was time for sunglasses.) to the Dr. for me. Ugh! I've been told by the emerg doctor that I must go on preventative meds. (I made it to 14 and a half weeks with no migraine.) He thinks I'm going to become addicted to the narcotics when I come in for my migraine cocktails (as I call them). He doesn't seem to realize that generally I don't get a narcotic. Lately though the migraines are so intense that the narcotics are the only thing that seem to provide temporary relief. The big problem is that the relief is only temporary and I need to go in more than once.

I am wondering: if I dare hang a load of towels on the line. It still looks like rain.

I am reading: the same list as last week and Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks. How a man can write such lovely romance novels is beyond me. :o) Although not necessarily Christian, they are not trashy like a lot of the other secular stuff out there. Mind you, they're not saintly either.

I am hoping:  that we can set up one of our tents in the backyard, so that we can sleep outside for a couple of nights just for fun.

I am looking forward to: hmmmm, again, nothing.

I am learning: yeah, we're always learning, I know that, but I can't put my finger on anything specific today.

Around the house: the usual damp towels, half a dozen pairs of flip flops, books, always books everywhere.

I am pondering: whether I should start getting rid of my overly large cookbook collection. I find I use the internet more and more. How long would it take me to find my fav's and record them?

A favorite quote for today: "You teach people how to treat you by what you allow, what you stop, and what you reinforce." As an very non-assertive introvert, this is something I still have to work on. I so often allow myself to become another person's doormat.

A few plans for the rest of the week: baking, cleanuing, cooking, finishing the prairie bonnets, start editing this past weekend's photo shoot, some more reading, camping in the backyard maybe(?).

A peek into my day:

One almost done. Just the elastic and the handstitching. I am not a very adept or patient had stitcher.

  1. I hope you're enjoying the cool, rainy weather. We had too much rain at the beginning of summer, so I'm a little tired of it, but sometimes a nice, rainy day is just the ticket.

Hope this finds you migraine-free, my dear!

  2. Hi Deborah! Swimming lessons. YOU are a nice mama and doing so many good things.
Isn't the garden's fruit fantastic? Yes, sea lavender! SO pretty!
I agree with Frances. Praying for migraine free days!

  3. Hurray for 14 weeks!

Are the prairie bonnets for anything in particular, or just for fun?

Tate runs into the same problem as Bub (not lifeguarding, but just bright in general). Has he thought about contacts?

    1. Hi Julie,

The prairie bonnets were for the four daughter of a friend of a friend. They are huge Little House on the Prairie fans and she was looking for bonnets for them. I had so much fun making them!

We asked Bub if he wanted contacts, but he is adamant that the idea of putting anything in his eye is just creepy. Peach has them though and Beans would like to get them soon.
