Volleyball Season

Volleyball season has begun at the girls' school. I know this because I am the coach. This year though, I'm not only coaching the girls, but the boys too. I LOVE it! Prior to coaching the girls last year, I have only coached one other time, and that was homeschool volleyball. Then we were learning from square one.

The boys and girls I coach now have a couple years of experience, so we can work on strengthening older skills quickly and begin on learning new skills. Doing this kind of fills in my missing I-love-teaching-children hole. Every day, I'm running out just before noon to coach a group of boys or a group of girls depending on which day it is.

The fun part is that most of these kids enjoy playing sports. They're keen to learn, to work hard, and do well. Now I have little life experience with boys seeing as there is only one in our home, but I am impressed with how this group of boys behaves. Oh, of course they can be silly and ridiculous, but for the most part they are keen, kind, compassionate, like to work as a team, and are very willing to stop mid play and listen.

I am looking forward to watching both teams strengthen their already learned skills and build and strengthen new ones. It's going to be a fun season!

I did something with the boys just for fun. I've been reading and watching a lot of instructionals on volleyball techniques, drills, etc. I came across one in particular on *that video website* that I found quite fascinating. Let's just say the boys have a ways to go before they'll get it :o), but I had a really good chuckle.

  3. Good for you! Sounds like fun for you and the kids :D Those drills are amazing - the way they can do them in unison. More skill than I ever had!

  5. Good for you! We have an outstanding and well-organized homeschooled girls' volleyball team. But a friend helps coach it and I know first hand how much work is involved.
