22 Days to Less Mess (Day 16 The Crawl Storage)

About eight years ago, we put the first addition on our house. It was that of a combination mudroom/laundry room. It was very much needed as prior to it, you walked in the back door into the hall. See the door on the right? That was the coat closet.  The back door literally opened right on to the closet, so you couldn't put anything away until everyone was in the house and the door was closed. VERY squishy!

Yes, there are dog prints all over that floor.

I showed you the photo to explain where our crawl storage came from. It's one of three very poorly accessible storage areas that we had prior to our new addition last winter. The crawl storage is decently large, but torturous to move around in.

We climb on a stool or chair to get in.

Ideally it would be best to store stuff that is only used once yearly (is that sentence redundant?), so since Christmas is rapidly appearing, it is being emptied, and when the Christmas season has passed again, the Christmas stuff can be stored in there.

This is where we store our Christmas stuff now.

Not safe. One of these days the Engineer or I will fall down the stairs trying to get stuff out of there. It is best for storing -- hmmmmm, I'm not sure if it's safe for storing anything....

Anyways, the storage room is now emptied, except for what is going to stay in there.  ie. paint, picnic baskets, etc.

Someone thought they would do a puzzle in there. They've since cleaned it up.

Now you're wondering where all that stuff went, yes?

VoilĂ ! Now you know why I have my work cut out for me in the basement :o).

  1. Oh my, that is indeed not safe!! Scared me a bit, when I saw that there was a staircase beneath it! I can't believe that Christmas is already sneaking up on us! :)

Wow, now I do see how you have your work cut out for you! Good luck, and can't wait to see when it's finished! (No hurry of pressure of course)

  4. Just to make you feel better....I've been living in this house 37 years. We have accumulated all kinds of things over that time, and not just because various people died off. So, that picture of your basement looks pretty darn organized to me. I wish I could show you a picture so you could grin at how well organized you actually are.

  5. Yabut, just writing what you wrote made me smile. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a room full. Hopefully though, by the end of next week it will look emptier.

  6. Seeing the door to your Christmas stuff made my tummy flop. Scare-eeeeee! I envy you a basement. They are not the norm here in texas but it sure looks like handy space.
