Bring on the New Year

New Year's eve is like every other night; there is no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless moment of silence among created things that the passage of another twelve months may be noted; and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this evening that come with the coming of darkness on other nights.  ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

Truth be told, we haven't gone out or had people over for a New Year's party in years. This year is no different really -- except that we let the children stay up a little later than normal. We had games, food, and movies. Hopefully we'll all still be in bed by 10:30.

The Littles can catch up on their sleep in the van the next day while we do our annual 2 hours (one way) sojourn to a family reunion. After eighteen years of doing this, I still don't get why it has to be New Year's Day.

Blessings!

  1. Your so funny, Deborah!! I'm with you, why on New Year's Day??? My hat is off to you for your commitment to family and tradition...there is certainly something to be said about that!
The newlyweds came over for dinner and left right before 10...we headed for bed and were asleep right away!
    Enjoy your day.
Please know you are such a blessing to me and I look forward to all that you share in this new year.
    grace and peace,

  2. I agree with A above. You are so good to continue to honor your extended family. I hope the roads are clear for your travels.

  3. I think it's been at least 7, probably more, years since I've seen midnight on NYE. :) I'm right there with you.

And really, it's been a long time since I've seen midnight without at least a few hours of sleep prior. :)

    Happy New Year!
