We were able to do at least one count everyday, but there is no exceptionally exciting bird species in our backyard. Just lots of black eyed juncos, English sparrows, and a North American cardinal. We have only ever seen the female. We did notice that there are more popular times than other for feeding and that one species will typically dominate for awhile, but it goes in rotations. We did discover interesting little tidbits about the habits and behaviours of our local birds through our close watching of them over the weekend.
On a photowalk (for more photos of it, see here) today with Squirt, she and I DID discover a woodpecker. Unfortunately we can't count him in on our count sheets. He was happily banging away at tree trunks looking for overwintering bugs.
I love the one with the orange nose! What a neat learning experience!
