Games Night

I know I've said this before, but I love being a GEMS counsellor! What I don't think I've mentioned is that my sister and I are counsellors together for a group of 14 grade five girls. It is such fun! She and I balance each other well. She is the extovert who makes the phone calls and plans the events. I am the introvert who gets the things done behind the scenes.

Last night we took eleven of the girls (a few were missing) to the senior's home, that is almost directly across the street from the church, for a games night. They were very excited, but of course when we got there, they were a little shy.

We brought various board games and after introducing ourselves, I sent the girls off with a game of their choice to find willing participants to play. Soon everyone was settled in and having a grand time.

I have to smile as I think about last night, because my SIL and I actually reversed roles for a bit. She was the behind the scenes woman getting the coffee made and the cookies set out, while I did the introductions. I'm still not sure how that happened.

The evening was a great success! The girls were full of chatter about how fun it was as we walked back to the church and the seniors thanked us many times and encouraged us to come again soon. Both the girls and the seniors were blessed and a blessing to each other and I was once again blessed to be a part of our GEMS club.

  1. What a great idea - to go, and to have the games for an ice-breaker.

Looks like a lot of fun :0)

  3. It makes me smile when that "generation gap" is bridged. We don't appreciate and respect our elders nearly enough. THEY are our reason for even being here (chronologically speaking). :)
