It's Moments Like This

There are many days where I wonder what I got myself into by pulling my kids from "the system" to homeschool them. Today was not one of those days. Regardless, I am sitting here in front of the computer continually peering over the screen and repeating to my youngest daughter to get to work... over and over again like a broken record, but I'm used to that. I'm sure I've said it before, but this child has an incredible and never ending imagination. So much so that she constantly distracts herself from her work.

She was told to stop playing with the markers -- they can take on human qualities -- and was promptly distracted by one of her favorite toys, conveniently sitting on the table beside her.

I'm not sure what these critters are doing, but they are quite talented ;-).

It's occurrences like today, when doing science with her, that remind me why I homeschool. We were studying day 6 of creation. I was reading the conclusion of the chapter,

"When you work, you need things to work with, but when the Lord created the heavens and the earth, he simply spoke. He created the world out of nothing! God is our powerful creator."

Squirt interrupted me at this point to point out that man was not made from nothing. (Aha! She does listen)! "God made Adam from the dust of the earth and Eve from a rib from Adam." (We are memorizing the children's catechism, thus her precisely worded statement). I reminded her how God makes each one of us in His image and knew us even before we were born.

It's moments like this, when I am able to share how much God loves us, that I am thrilled that I am homeschooling them. Call me selfish, but why should I leave these kinds of moments up to a teacher (if they're in a Christian school) or even their Sunday school teacher. I'm glad it's me who can share Christ's love and the value of their worth with my children. It's who they most need to hear it from anyway.
