Apple Picking

The weather folk are forecasting a change in the weather tomorrow. No more shirt sleeves for awhile I'm sure, so the children and I took full advantage of the beautiful afternoon and went to the apple orchard.

We parked the car at the store and walked to the back where the orchard was. Mrs. Z told us there were no more apples on the trees, but there were still plenty of windfalls to be found. We gathered up a half a bushel of at least half a dozen varieties and all sat to eat an apple or two before the long walk back.

It was beautiful way back there. There were still crickets singing, and the remaining leaves on the trees were rustling in the gentle breeze. The azure blue of the sky and the rich colours of the apples, as well as the almost ebony water in the nearby crik provided many interesting sights.

When we arrived home, we were anxious to make something besides applesauce, so I dug out my favorite recipe for apple dumplings. They're a little time consuming, but they're definitely worth it. They were so good that I forgot to take a picture of them being gobbled up by all of us.

  1. This looks like so much fun! Apples won't grow here so I'm hoping we'll be able to go on a trip someday that will afford us the opportunity to stop by an orchard.

  3. What a beautiful post! Everything is so autumn-y.

We have two apples trees in our front yard and we make full use of them.
