Yeah, Great!

I had a punch biopsy on my face a little over a week ago. Today I went to get the stitch out and find out the pathology report. I have to say, I never really thought about it, so I was a little shocked to learn that I have skin cancer. Yep, the C word! It's non-melanoma so it's curable, but it's also my kick in the pants to start wearing sunscreen more diligently, wear my hat, and maybe think twice about loving the heat of the sun on me. Drat!! I so love summer, the heat, the sun. Anyhow. I go to get the rest removed in August and will get to have a nice scar below my temple. Yeah, great! Oh well, not every Monday can start this way ;o)!

May you all have a great week! I figure mine can only improve from here ;o)!

  1. Oh my, Deborah! I'm so sorry! I'm so glad it's not melanoma. As one who is well-scarred from having moles removed and all that, I assure you, the scar will only add character. ;)

  2. As my boys always say, "Scars are cool!" You remind me that I should be more diligent living here in the tropics - thanks!

  3. So sorry to read this news, Deborah! And so thankful that it's the curable kind. Hugs to you...

  4. Dear Deborah,

I'm sorry to hear about this. I'll be praying for your healing, and the coming up appointments to go smoothly!

  5. Yikes! I'm glad you went to the doctor. So many people have had too much sun. I have. Praying for you, Deborah.

  6. wow--Deborah--what a shock, especially when you're not even considering or worrying about it!! So glad it's non-melanoma and curable.

  7. Oh no! I'm sorry! I had a pre-cancer spot last year so this is a very good reminder for me to get back to the dermatologist for a checkup!! I'm so glad you're getting the treatment you need!

  8. Wow! That must have been quite a scare. At least it is curable and you have such a big, wonderful family for support. Take care and your in my thoughts and prayers. Take care!!

  9. Praying everything turns out okay.

    Keep us posted.

  10. Deborah,
I am so sorry to read this news. You are beautiful inside and out scar or not.
I am greatful the c will be removed and you will be cured.
I will pray for you my friend.

  11. Oh, I am sorry. I had a pre-melanoma removed a year and a half ago and it was kinda sobering. I love the sun and how it lifts my spirits. Praying for you to have peace. God is in control of all things. Hugs from Texas. ~Leslie

  12. I'm so sorry to hear this. An online friend of mine in CA has been through this a couple of times. This is a big reminder for me to wear sunscreen. I've been making it a point to wear a hat while mowing, but it's not enough I know. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  13. Oh, sweet friend,
I'm pleased you caught this early and are committing to taking precautions in the sun from now on out. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

  14. Sorry to hear of this, but thanks for sharing. It might smarten us all up.

  15. Aren't you glad you had that check up? I'm so glad it's not a melanoma, as I'm sure you are as well! Sobering, though, to be surprised like that. I have a few moles that my dermatologist is keeping an eye on, and the funny thing is, they're not the ones I think look funky. In any event, sorry you have to go through the worry of this, but so, so happy the overall the news is good. Now go put on that sunscreen!

  16. So glad it's "the good kind"!!! Hallelujah. And I second the
"scars add character". All you need is a good story ;D

  17. I'm sorry to hear this news but super thankful it's curable!

by the way, please use good sunscreen. Most of the commercially available stuff out there is awful for us and may not even effectively block both UVA and UVB rays. Please check out the Environmental Working Group's database and their guide to suncreen.

Bottom line: Buy mineral-based with zinc or titanium oxide as active ingredient to ensure broad spectrum protection. Avoid oxybenzone and parabens! They are terrible for us and get absorbed into the skin.

  18. crazy!
I, too, have had quite a few scars added to my body this way. trust everything will be fine.

  19. I am sorry you must go through this, yet what a good thing that you were not worried about it before and it shocked you when you discovered the results of the biopsy. I am thankful it is treatable and curable.

    Praying for you.

  20. Sorry, you are going through this. Will be praying for your healing. Glad it is not worse...

  21. I'm relieved to hear that it's not melanoma, but so sorry to hear that you have another stress added at this time that I am sure is stressful enough. I'm glad that you got it checked out. Just so you are in my prayers lately as I have vivid memories of our first few months home and what a huge transition it is. I will add this in to the prayers as well.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I love to hear from my readers!
