Monday Morning Brain Dump

1} It's chilly today. I bundled Squirt up for our walk and both Shelly and I have started wearing stuff to cover our ears. We enjoyed a good brisk walk though and the sunshine made it feel wonderful!

2} Bub is failing French. The main reason is, he's one of those kids who doesn't have to work hard to get good grades. He has to work at French. So, now he and I have a wager going. He has to work at his French and get a seventy and I have to lose twenty pounds by the day he writes his exam. At this point, I'd say it looks hopeless for both of us.

3} I worked in the garden for a bit after walking. My tomatoes are done. I didn't even get the last of them in to freeze. I'm not sure if they were attacked by some sort of blight, or whether we've had a frost. If we did, somehow my peppers have been spared. They have produced a bumper crop this year.  I have enough chopped and frozen peppers to last us all winter.

4} I picked the last two glads blooming in the garden. They are such beauties!

5} I also picked my basil and dill. Some will be for drying and some for freezing.

6} Peanut is in the testing phase. She's been getting into things a LOT lately. It's like having a two year old in the house.

7} Believe it or not, our girls have been home for four months already. They are doing really well. I am shocked at how much they fight with each other and am getting very tired of them talking at full decibels when they are two feet away from each other, but I do believe there is some light at the end of the tunnel regarding their lack of inside voices. We're using a couple of different techniques when it comes to that and I think just maybe they are catching on.

8} The four oldest kids and I went to watch Fish Eyes on Saturday night. I was sitting next to my mom and at one point in the play, we were laughing so hard I thought I was going to wet my pants. Wow, can those guys engage their audience.

9} My list of things to do is getting longer and longer, so off I go. Hope you all have a great week!

  1. Sounds like a great weekend, at your house - love those chilly fall walks!

You are doing SO WONDERFULLY with the girls, and blending your family. Such a living picture of the love of God :D And, though there are no doubt bigger issues, I encourage you to hang in there in your insistence on gentle, inside voices. It will pay off in spades in the end :D

  3. Poor Bub. I bet he improves and you'll lose that 20 lbs. if you decide you want to. Ha ha! That's the tricky part.
We have a nip in the air here, too.
    Have a cheery week, Deborah!

  4. I wish you and your son all the best!! You both can do it! :)

Four months already, wow... time flies by! I hope you keep seeing more light at the end of the tunnel.

Our tomatos seemed to have been hit by a blight, we didn't get near as many as we should have.

  5. We had some very chilly days too! Oh I would know about failing some classes... I don't have the best grade in History. (Tell him to hang in there - ha I wish I didn't have to study, and still could pass.)

Ahh the testing phase... That takes a lot of patience, and I'm praying that can find it most days - even on the worst days possible.

Sounds like you had a pretty abundant garden this year! Hope you find lots to make it with!

Blessings to a good rest of your Tuesday!

  7. Jack isn't failing French, but he's like Bub--he's not really had to try too hard to get good grades, but with French you have to try hard, even if you're really smart. It's all those accent thingies.

I'm with you on the twenty pounds. Let's go, sister!
