It Can't Be Friday Already!

Last week was March break (or spring break) here. It was nice not to have to run to all the extra activities that a regular week usually entails. The two oldest girls worked at a local greenhouse for a few days, so I had to get them to work in the morning, but the rest of the day was quiet. Later in the week, a couple of children went to spend a day here and there with friends. When they were all home there was lots of reading happening, and hours of fun with the perler beads. It was quiet and I appreciated it because I was dealing with yet another draggy headache. I managed to get a few things done, but nothing like I had originally hoped.

This week has been back to routine again. I guess only being off for a week doesn't make it hard to get back into the school day routines.

Bub made it back safe and sound with lots to share from Nicaragua.

Peach is busy practicing for her Shakespeare play at school.

Beans and Squirt are busy memorizing lines for the musical at their school.

The Littles are being the littles. We're working very hard on getting them to think about things. They are so routine oriented that they don't think, they just do. It's very frustrating for us at times.

I am trying to incorporate living completely without sugar as well as other high glycemic ingredients. I am hoping that this will help get rid of -- or at least decrease the frequency and severity of my migraines. I am thankful for the book Trim Healthy Mama as I wouldn't know where to begin if it weren't for this book. It's still a huge learning curve, but I am plugging away at it, and I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it. It has a lot to do with mindset, but I am determined to try this for at least six months and then I'll re-evaluate. I am two weeks sugar free with the exception of an overdose of English allsorts (I have a HUGE weakness for those) that the Engineer bought to keep himself more awake for the all night drive to Toronto to pick up Bub. I went with, and when he cracked open that bag I knew I was in trouble. Ohhh, they are so good!

The snow is finally beginning to melt. It looks very yucky and drab everywhere. There's garbage and dirt all over the place. It'll be a few more weeks before things start looking like spring here and boy, are we ready. You know it's been a looooong winter when even the children are complaining!

It's supposed to be sunny all day today and be above freezing too, so I am going to clean windows. They are so dirty that I think it is almost making it look dark and drab in the house.

Happy weekend!

  1. Your spring break sounds really nice. Ours is just beginning here. We have warmed up a little yesterday and today, and that wind has stopped blowing for the moment (yea!) I'm glad your Bub is home, it is wonderful to send them out, but always comforting to have them come home. How did he like his trip? how about his room? I like that your daughters are working at a local green house. That would be a wonderful job for a young person (I think). Thinking on your comment about the "littles", I have found the same thing with our last 3 as well. The last 2 especially have struggled with planning, and taking instruction for how to plan ahead. Needless to say, their grades suffered because of it. The oldest of the 3 did better with grades and doing what is needed, but the last two have had to learn as they go. I think maybe being an orphan and living in an orphanage imprints upon them, and it does take prayer to see it healed. We are seeing it, but has been a bit of a journey. Hope your headaches disappear. I am loving the THM, but it has taken me a little bit to get the full grasp of it, and I still have to double check things in the book. It is working though, and I am glad I am doing it. You made me laugh when you talked about the English Allsorts (which I had to look up to see what they were)… and then could completely relate… please don't put those things in front of me, I am too easily tempted haha. Sweets (and potatoes… and bread) are a weakness I have worked to overcome, and not completely there yet, but getting there. Enjoyed the post; guess my comment is rambling, so I'll let you go. Have a great week.

  2. I am really sorry about your headaches and sure wish you could find relief. I used to get really bad ones and then we moved and I while I still get sinus headaches I do not get the migraines any more. Not sure what/why and I know moving is kind of extreme but....that is my story. :) I can't wait to clean our windows. My husband usually does that and he is waiting for ... well, I am not sure what it is he is waiting for. :)

  3. Ugh, I don't much care for the cloudy-dirty-muddy transition from winter to spring, but brighter days are coming! Glad Bub is safely home. And praying for progress with the Littles - they've come so far!
