Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window: Darkness. The sun is setting earlier and earlier. We had our first frost last night and it feels like another frost tonight. Autumn has truly set in now.

I am hearing: Occasional chatter as two children finish up homework.  Beans working on a fun piece on her violin. The whirr of the combine as it takes off the soybeans in the field around us. Many farmers will be working late into the night around us.

I am pondering: Way too much! I am going away with the Engineer in less than two weeks. So MUCH to be done before we go!

I am praying: for friends who have lost loved ones very recently.

I am thankful for: a long warm fall, sunshine, autumn colours, laughter, beautiful music, long brisk walks.

I am wearing: warm up pants over shorts, tank, t-shirt, micro-fleece warm up jacket. (Still from coaching today.)

I am going: to start getting caught up on photo sessions, scrub a kitchen, and continue to attack the craft room.

I am reading: I am itching to start reading Food Matters by Mark Bittman and Beauty Rising by Mark W. Sasse, but I have a few too many others on the go yet.

I am looking forward to: dare I say it? Not feeling the need to do yard work anymore. I pulled my celery today, so I think all that is left in the garden is kale and cabbages. The summer bulbs still have to be dug, but we need a good hard frost first. There is also much cutting back to be done, but if it doesn't get done until spring, so be it.

In the kitchen: cinnamon pear jam cooling on the counter. Diced pears waiting to be made into coconut pear muffins, and still more pears awaiting delicious recipes.

I am creating: I bought some fun wool at the thrift store last week. If I can figure out how to use it, I am hoping to create a baby blanket?

One of my favorite things: curling up on the couch with the fire blazing in the fireplace, a cup of hot coffee or tea, and a good read.

Words for thought: I tell this to my kids. "If you don't want anyone to find out, then don't do it!"

A picture thought:
