Simple Woman's Daybook

Simple Woman's Daybook for Thanksgiving Monday, October 14, 2013

Hello! I've been absent for a few weeks, simply because with the beginning of the school year comes a new routine and several fall events that I help out with for school. It's also our busiest time of the year photography-wise.  Autumn here has been absolutely splendiferous!! Everything remains sooo green! Add to that some high colour in some of the trees, lots of sunshine, and mild temperatures, and you have a recipe for spending any free time that happens outdoors.

So for today:

Outside my window: Sunshine! Mostly green trees with some turning to red and gold on some of their branches. Blankets scattered with dolls and doll accessories. And somewhere the hubby is puttering about readying things for the winter season that is inevitably arriving sooner or later.

I am hearing: the washing machine filling, our Christian radio station playing a song by Plumb, the girls laughing and chattering while they eat a very late lunch.

I am pondering: when to rent a carpet and upholstery cleaner to get our furniture and bedroom carpet fresh and clean again.

I am praying: for some friends and some family who need some extra comfort these days.

I am creating: hmmmm, I'm not really creating anything, but I am getting things ready so I can do some creating again. My craft room which is the unofficial dumping grounds for anything people don't know what to do with, is actually starting to have floor space and other flat surface space visible again. Phew! What a mess it is/was!

I am thankful: that our sister church here in our town still has a Thanksgiving Day service. We've been going ever since our home church in a neighboring city gave theirs up a few years ago. It's always a gift to spend time together as a congregation being reminded of what we are and can be thankful for.

I am wearing: a John Deere T-shirt, my gardening jeans (meaning permanently dirt covered knees), socks and my shoes that allow me to stomp on a spade and sling dirt.,

I am going: the school everyday to coach volleyball, to do a photo session tomorrow, and I'm not sure what else. I always have a hard time thinking ahead when it's a day off and the whole family is home.

I am reading: waaaay too many books at one time. I currently have seven on the go. One is a read aloud with the hubby and the four oldest and one is a read aloud with one of my adolescents, but the rest are all ones I am reading to myself.

I am wondering: surprisingly I'm not wondering about anything today. Just enjoying the day.

I am looking forward to: The Engineer and I are very much looking forward to a night away JUST THE TWO OF US to go see The Piano Guys in Detroit. It's our 20th wedding anniversary gift to us as we passed that special milestone on the second of this month.

In the kitchen: leftover turkey and sweet pototoes, enough pumpkin to make another two or three recipes. I'm thinking another pumpkin pie would be good.

Around the house: freshly folded laundry, schoolwork, books, papers, and the random things left by having a houseful of children.

Words for thought: "Expect nothing and appreciate everything."

One of my favorite things: Sunshine! It's free, it's warm, and makes everything brighter!

A few plans for the rest of the week: I really hope to/need to/want to start blogging again. I have so much to record for my family and to share with you my readers. Catch up on all of my favorite blogs! You know who you are! :o)

A picture thought for today:

For all my Canadian readers, I hope you're having a blessed Thanksgiving, and for all my other readers, Happy Monday to you!

  1. I just discovered your blog today I enjoyed reading your family's adoption story. Your story brought to mind some similar things that happened during the adoption process with our children...and that was 27 and 30 years ago. It is too bad that all of the paperwork processing still takes so long; as children wait and wait. You are a very talented writer. Best wishes to you and your family as you celebrate Thanksgiving.

  3. It's SO VERY GOOD to see you back in the bloggy world and hear all the homey news from you and your family. Coaching volleyball again - good for you! What grades are the kids now? Are they all in school, or is Peanut still home? Who goes to school together? How is Bright Eyes doing with her hearing? (Heh heh heh... just some ideas for future blog posts ;D)
