Hybrid Tea Roses

I adore roses. Hate the thorns and scratches I get during pruning time, but it's all worth it when I see them bloom. We've been having very hot very humid days lately. (Mid to high 90's F with a humidex to match.) It's enough to make me wilt, but my roses are loving it. Here's my collection thus far:

'Rainbow Niagara'

 'Maid of Honor'

 'Mirandy' (I think)

 'José Carreras'

 'Mr. Lincoln'

 'Stephen's Big Purple'

'Summer Sunset'

When we have these days of oppressive heat and humidity, they are almost daily accompanied by an early evening thunderstorm or two. They sometimes bring rain and sometimes they don't, but when the rains come it make the flowers exceptionally pretty until you realise that these are the close ups of the little shrubs and can hide the mess they make past their bloom.

Just keepin' it real! :o)

Here's a final dose of beauty before I head off to dreamland. Heat, humidity, and thundershowers, make for gorgeous evening skies and in turn can alllllmost make you forget how yucky you felt all day.

A nice cool shower helps erase the entire memory. :o)

Stay cool, dear readers!

  4. Your photos are excellent. Do you have problems with mites, insects, molds or fungi? That makes rose gardening challenging here in the south. My neighbor has a marvelous rose garden, but she hires a rose gardening service to maintain them.

It is very hot here too. But we have actually gone three days in a row without any rain, but there are clouds from tme to time.

    1. Cathy, they do get mold on occasion -- mainly if we have a wet summer. My also often suffer from thrips and leaf spot. At this point in my life I'm just happy they bloom. Someday I'll be a more diligent rose gardener. :o)

  5. Your pictures are like art masterpieces. Your roses are beautiful. I consider the fallen petals like potpourri, so if you think of it like that... its pretty. Love your mulberry pie. IIt looks really good. I remember the little stems when you pick mulberries. The pictures in that post are beautiful as well. Are the kids going through a strawberry patch? It looks so green... ahhhh.

    1. The green that the girls are walking through is a soybean field. Soybeans, wheat, and corn are the primary crops in our county. They'll be nice and green until about September and then they'll start to turn golden, drop all their leaves and be brown stalks with pods of soybeans hanging off them. They're usually harvested in late September, early October.

  8. What a lovely post! I especially like the various shades of coral. I was just telling my daughter I need to grow more flowers because they are my favorite kind to clip and bring inside. I bet those smell amazing.

    1. Oddly enough, very few hybrid teas are scented. Likely from being hybridized, but the ones that do have a scent are absolutely lovely!
