Homesick

 A lot has been going on in our part of the country. I share with you a link here. The song Homesick by Mercy Me has been running through my head all afternoon.

I don't know this family personally, but it still hurts. It hurts because this family is part of our greater community, our extended church family, and they are hurting. Crying out to God in anguish. It's always hard to lose a loved one, whether it be after a long illness, or suddenly. This situation however is simply tragic. It leaves even those of us who are firm in our faith and not easily shaken reeling in pain and anger and asking why!? I can't answer that question. I just know that I feel homesick for heaven. I repeat the words of the 23rd Psalm.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

I encourage you to stop by Kellen's blog at Treasure in Earthen Vessels and read his post about this day. He asks us to pray, but you might be surprised at just what he asks us to pray for. I'm praying, will you too?
