A Mid-January Saturday

Discovered this morning outside our back door. These are tulips.

It's mid-January and this is what we did today:

I should have taken a photograph of it while out in the garden, but I didn't think of it at the time, so you'll just have to trust me that I did indeed pick this from the garden.

Not too hard to believe, since this is Canada -- the land of extremely variable weather. Some years it can be mild enough to still have edible kale in the garden and hang clothes on the line. Other years we can be in a deep freeze. And still other years on day two or three (sometimes more) of what we affectionately (at least for the first two or three times anyways) call snow days. Who knows, maybe next week we'll be up to our necks in snow, or even less fun, wrapping up against some major sub zero Celsius temperatures. Ahhh, the joys of a Canadian winter. It may be wonderfully mild today, but tomorrow, well, your guess is as good as mine!

Please excuse the use of British swearing in the last line. We are after all still a part of the British commonwealth. ;o) Image: Deviantart

How has your winter been so far?

  1. haha sounds like MN! :) Wow food from the garden, things actually growing, AND you get to hang your clothes on the line.

It was below zero here today, and it also has rained, sleeted, and snowed in the past 36 hours. Oh the joys of winter in January!

  2. Our winter has mostly been mild, which is not too unusual for North Carolina, though yesterday's 77 degree temp was a bit much. I, too, hung out wash on the line! And our lettuce continues to grow in the garden. Wish we had kale, but I can't seem to convince the Man to plant it. Sigh.

  3. Out winter is usually dark and wet, with brief interludes of cold and clear, which we have right now. The boys are longing for snow, but being so near sea level it remains tantalizingly just above us.

Oh well, we can drive up to the mountains to play and we don't often have to drive in it down here :D

I'm envious of you hanging out laundry... much too wet here for that just now.

  4. Oh dear. Yes, I suppose we are responsible for the language! I am so hoping for some snow before the end of winter- but it wouldn't be snow like yours!!

  5. Today has been beautiful, a little windy, but began in the mid-20s and warmed up to the mid-40s. But just a few days ago, we were in the 70s ;-)

  6. Hmmm...sounds a lot like Colorado to me. We're absolutely freezing right now and have been for a few days - highs in the teens, lows around zero. But we're supposed to hit 50s by the weekend. LOL!!

  7. We've been experiencing the same winter! :) I remember hearing in the fall about this winter being a hard winter, I said I'd believe it when I saw it. LOL

I didn't think of hanging laundry out, but we could have! :) The kale look delicious!!
