Counting Down

It's hard to believe really, but summer holidays are almost over here. On Tuesday morning two will board the bus for high school, and four for grade school. Then on Wednesday the seventh one will climb aboard the bus for her first day of school. My euphoria/boo hoo pendulum swings back and forth wildly, but most mostly on the euphoria side. For the first time in a very very long time, I will have two days where I am home ALONE. All. By. Myself! Screeeee! I am so excited about that part I can hardly contain myself. Yes, I will miss my children, but to be able to sit down and not have to get up thirty seconds later to referee yet another situation, is ridiculously exciting to me. I will be working in the studio/office one day a week, but the rest of the days are mine. All mine -- even with Peanut home -- to do with as I please. First off my house is going to be so clean, it's not going to know what hit it. Then I'm going to tackle all those started, not started, and/or I'm dreaming about starting projects that have been sitting on the back burner for months -- er, years. After that, we'll see. There are books to read, items to knit, crochet, or sew, years of scrapbooking to catch up on... I will so NOT be bored.

So, yes, I confess. I am counting down. I will be happy to see my kids when they arrive home again and just might even have a special snack for them on their first day home. How about you? If you have children to going to school, do you look forward to them going back to school, or do you dread it as I have in other years?

  1. We are in the same boat! I'm by myself at home for hte first time in 11 years. Wow. People keep asking me what on earth I'm going to do and I always say, I'm sure I'll find something to "fill the time"! Yea for us :)

  2. Wow! I'm excited for you and your kiddos :D

I still have two home, full-time. But Wyatt will be P/T at our local HS. I have mixed feelings about it... relieved NOT to be teaching him math (!!!) but mourning the loss of our flexible schedule. At least he's only going half-days - three classes at school (English, Spanish, Algebra) and done by 10:40.

But I AM excited about getting school going again at home and having more routine and structure for all of us :D

  3. Hi Deborah.

It's nice to "see" you blogging again.

We're gearing up for the start of school as well. I'm looking forward to it, to the return of routine. Though I must say that I've enjoyed these summer months!

Hope to see you more in the blog-sphere come September! Speaking of which, do you want to plan a trip to Toronto? Check out: www.eucharisteo.ca --- this project came about as a direct result of our trip to the Philippines last summer!

  4. It's been hard getting back into a routine. Volleyball is in full swing, and the exhaustion has hit hard!

But it has been fun seeing friends again, and I can tell already that I'm going to LOVE Biology!

My mom is sad that the 4 of us are back to school, because then she has to be home with the most needy one of all. Prayers appreciated for her.

Blessings, & I hope you all have a fantastic last bit of summer!

  7. How exciting for you!! This is my last year of homeschooling, so the boys work fairly independently, meaning I do have time to accomplish some things. It's definitely an interesting time in life. There's still more to do than hours in the day...er, week...er, year!! LOL!!

    Enjoy your time!
