Thanksgiving

It's funny how when Monday is a holiday the rest of the week just gets away on me.  I had to cram for Bible study on Tuesday morning, but despite the cramming, it was a great lesson. We're studying Romans. It's sooo good to be back in a small group again studying God's Word.

With rain in the forecast -- that arrived today as predicted -- I worked like crazy in the perennial bed on Tuesday afternoon. I wanted to get all the dead and dying stuff cut back this fall instead of in the spring when I always get at it too late. I'm almost done. I just need one more day of nice weather and the perennial bed will be ready for the first snow. *shiver!*

Today my friend J and I worked on our craft for GEMS. I went walking with another friend first and then J and I worked together to get the craft prepared for our little group. It'd going to be fun watching them put it together. I'll have to remember to bring the camera and put it in a safer spot. I don't need to break our other one too.

Tomorrow is the girls' school cross country meet. Four of our girls are running. I'm hoping it's not still raining or I'm not sure the little girls and I will go and spend the day watching.

Somewhere in between all the happenin's, I've been editing photos. Such beautiful families! I really enjoy sitting down and working to produce memories for families. Although I wish there was time for shooting every day, I will take what we've been blessed to do and enjoy it immensely!

Anyways, enough about this week so far. Thanksgiving weekend was wonderful!! I have to say that even though we didn't do any major traditional feasting with our extended family this weekend, it was a pretty special Thanksgiving. After all, our family has grown by three since last year this time. Last year we were hoping and dreaming that our girls would be home with us for Christmas, and then maybe January or February. Then we hoped for April, but finally FINALLY, on June 11, we landed in Canada with our three new daughters. Life certainly hasn't been the same since! Things are a little messier, a little busier, and a LOT louder. (After four months, I really don't think they have inside voices). We are blessed. Abundantly so! I wouldn't trade this life for all the tea in China :o).

We enjoyed a beautiful weekend! Gardening, installing invisible dog fencing, photo sessions, swimming, in fact it was so warm we spent the afternoon with Gramma and Grampa on the beach on Sunday. My family swam. I read.

It's been over five weeks since I last finished a book. So I was happy to have read The Wind in the Willows by Madeleine L'Engle. I know I read this book as a child, but I actually only remember one part of the entire book, so it was a wonderful read!

On Monday afternoon, we were even able to take some time to do our own fall photo session. We have a favorite spot that we go to every autumn. I was worried last week that the colours wouldn't have reached their height yet, but it was beautiful!

Wishing you all an enjoyable remainder of the week!

  1. Oh dear friend,
Your header is lovely! And aren't those wee ones sassy?!! In a very good and sweet way! Your fall photos came out superb...the colors are fantastic. Everyone...even Mavy is on their best camera behavior!
I'm glad that you had a great thanksgiving and that you all enjoyed time at the beach. I think I might re-read that classic, too.
I had the funniest dream about you and your family last night. I just showed up unannounced at your door for a visit. You were so gracious and served me an almond tart!! But, you did ask how long I was planning on staying!
I do hope the rest of the week goes well.
    Lots of love

  3. Lol! I just about woke the girls reading your comment I'm still grinning. Annesta, you know you would be very welcome to come -- even unannounced! I'm impressed I even had almond tarts at the ready. Too funny that I asked you how long you were staying.

    Hugs!

  5. Beautiful.

Imagine an afternoon, 3 ladies getting a bit tired of schoolwork and the promise of an uneventful night. Enter the postmistress.

Can you guess what she brought to our door? I'm guessing that you got it right! Thank you for the kind words, the fun prize and the carefully packaged guests. We had fun catching up on their antics at your place. Somehow, we had missed most of their time with you. Things around here had kept me away from visiting. I'm a bit nervous about Mole. He's been pining a bit for Horsey Barbie. We'll try to find him some distraction...

    Blessings, Debbie

Oh dear I do hope they have a bit better inside voices since your first few weeks home. Sounds like a beautiful Thanksgiving! I CAN'T believe it was nice enough to swim. I haven't been swimming since the middle of August!

    Have a wonderful night!
    Blessings,
    ~Michlyn

  14. Such sweet pictures of your children! Sounds like you had a lovely thanksgiving too. We did too, quiet, but good. I didn't have the energy to have lots of company, so we kept it just us and had a lovely day working together. :)
