Yeah, Great!

I had a punch biopsy on my face a little over a week ago. Today I went to get the stitch out and find out the pathology report. I have to say, I never really thought about it, so I was a little shocked to learn that I have skin cancer. Yep, the C word! It's non-melanoma so it's curable, but it's also my kick in the pants to start wearing sunscreen more diligently, wear my hat, and maybe think twice about loving the heat of the sun on me. Drat!! I so love summer, the heat, the sun. Anyhow. I go to get the rest removed in August and will get to have a nice scar below my temple. Yeah, great! Oh well, not every Monday can start this way ;o)!

May you all have a great week! I figure mine can only improve from here ;o)!

  1. Oh my, Deborah! I'm so sorry! I'm so glad it's not melanoma. As one who is well-scarred from having moles removed and all that, I assure you, the scar will only add character. ;)

  2. As my boys always say, "Scars are cool!" You remind me that I should be more diligent living here in the tropics - thanks!

  12. I'm so sorry to hear this. An online friend of mine in CA has been through this a couple of times. This is a big reminder for me to wear sunscreen. I've been making it a point to wear a hat while mowing, but it's not enough I know. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  15. Aren't you glad you had that check up? I'm so glad it's not a melanoma, as I'm sure you are as well! Sobering, though, to be surprised like that. I have a few moles that my dermatologist is keeping an eye on, and the funny thing is, they're not the ones I think look funky. In any event, sorry you have to go through the worry of this, but so, so happy the overall the news is good. Now go put on that sunscreen!

  17. I'm sorry to hear this news but super thankful it's curable!

by the way, please use good sunscreen. Most of the commercially available stuff out there is awful for us and may not even effectively block both UVA and UVB rays. Please check out the Environmental Working Group's database and their guide to suncreen.

Bottom line: Buy mineral-based with zinc or titanium oxide as active ingredient to ensure broad spectrum protection. Avoid oxybenzone and parabens! They are terrible for us and get absorbed into the skin.

  21. I'm relieved to hear that it's not melanoma, but so sorry to hear that you have another stress added at this time that I am sure is stressful enough. I'm glad that you got it checked out. Just so you know...you are in my prayers lately as I have vivid memories of our first few months home and what a huge transition it is. I will add this in to the prayers as well.
