Book Review Saturday (Edition 13)

I've finished off three books in the last two weeks. Two were purely brainless. One although hysterically funny at points, is not one I would recommend. The language is vulgar, and the lifestyle is not one I would condone. It is Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding

The second brainless book was The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. If you've seen the movie, it is not like the book. The movie is very different, and truthfully far cleaner language and thought-wise than the book. I will not be handing this book over to my daughters to read. This book too though was hysterically funny at points.

So in the humour aspect both these books were good reads -- especially since these days, I really need some comic relief. However, due to language and immorality, I would not recommend them to anyone.

The third book I read was the five people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom. I like Albom's books. They are thought provoking, and quick reads. the five people you meet in heaven tells the story of an older gentlemen who dies suddenly in an accident. He ends up in heaven. In heaven, he meets five people. He affected the lives of each of these people in some way despite not even know them.  It is through meeting these people that he (and the reader) discover how intricately interwoven human's lives can be and that we can leave an effect on an individual's life without even knowing it. It's a well written and thought provoking book. If any of my bloggy readers have read it, I would love to hear your thoughts on this book too.

Happy reading!

  1. Maybe I shouldn't admit it, but Bridget Jones' Diary was one of my guilty pleasures, last year. You're exactly right - very funny, but not appropriate. *sigh*

I'm intrigued by the Alborn book, but haven't read it. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Lol! Julie, thank you for admitting that you enjoyed it too -- despite it's inappropiateness.

  3. I really love that you share All your books with your faithful readers...even the ones that are not so appropriate. I have been on this Lisa Gardner kick and have read far more than I care to admit in public these last few months. After I finish one I tell myself that I will not read another and then I find myself downloading yet another!!! Ok, when I'm done with this last one on the plane ride home tomorrow, I am going to read one of your recommendations!
    Hope your week goes well!

  4. I need to put the Mitch Albom book on my To Read list. I've not read anything of his, but always hear good things about his books.

Yes, I've seen Bridget Jones' Diary, some years ago. Terribly inappropriate, though some hilarious moments.

I've only seen Princess Diaries, but it sounds like that's a good thing. :-)
