Hello Thursday!

For as long as I can remember, Thursday has been my favorite day of the week.

When I was young it meant there was only one more day of school before the weekend. It also meant art class the next day. When I got older it meant volley ball night, and now it means date night. Yay!

I'm feeling very productive today, but we'll see how long that lasts. The chaos and upheaval in the house might take the wind out of my sails before noon. I was up before six am today though.

The boy is at rowing practice. He has to be there at 5:45 am. Anyways, he and the Engineer slept in this morning, so they were a little noisy getting out the door today.

It was okay. I was awake anyway.

I got up. I started last night's supper dishes. Yep, they were all over the wee bit of counter I do have.

Since I am up so early, I am finally catching up on email correspondence. I am so very bad about keeping up with correspondence! If you've sent me a message and haven't heard from me, don't be upset. I am just a very bad corresponder.

Tonight the Watoto Children's Choir is coming to sing! I am  SO excited to spend time with them and hear them sing. Actually, our whole family is excited! The children have been talking about it for days! The Engineer did the planning and organizing to have them come, so we've been hearing about them for weeks.

Not my photograph, but don't you just love it?

He's leaving work early to meet the bus at church and help get them settled. Then we will all share a meal together. So fun!

Mom and I went thrift store shopping yesterday. If you know me at all, I don't do jeans -- until recently at least. I have never been into thigh clinging pants and it seems that every pair of jeans I try on does exactly that -- suctions themselves to my ample thighs. If they don't, well then good luck  getting them to stay on my hips. Happily I found a (rather expensive) pair at a local department store that fit me comfortably. I still need a belt, but at least they don't fold over under the belt. Then yesterday, because we had lots of time, I went through all the jeans (there were hundreds of them, I think) and took about eight pairs that looked like they might fit. Well, two did!! The best part? Those two pairs were still less than half the price of the ones I bought at the department store.

I did a denim load today in the hope that I can wear one of my new (to me) pair of jeans tonight :o).  I hope it doesn't decide to rain!

I also found a few other neat trinkets. Our new windows all have lovely sills for putting things such as these little vases. I can't wait to add some spring flowers to them!

Another exciting find was this!

We're trying to keep the luggage to three suitcases and three back packs. This suitcase is HUGE! It should fit the Engineer's, Bub's and my clothes. I just hope it isn't over fifty pounds :oS! The other suitcases will hold the girls' clothes and all the items we have been gathering for their orphanage.

That's about all for now!

Happy Thursday!

  1. I never have luck with the jeans at thrift store. Glad you managed to find some! Thrift stores are great for vases: all the vases for the centerpieces at our wedding came from Value Village! Unfortunately, I don't have space for 20 glass vases, so they're just sitting somewhere in a box...

  2. Oh, fun thrifting!

And I have to ask... where, or where, does Bub have rowing practice at 5:45??? Dark? Cold? Indoor???

  3. Jeanette, I think I just got lucky. Only one other time have I ever found a pair of jeans that fit me that I liked, and that was garage sale-ing of all things!!

Julie, so far practices are indoor on rowing machines and weights. The outdoor practices begin in the nearby bay next week. Now that the ice is all off the lake their coach is itching to get them out there! Living where we live, the least wind is in the very early morning or quite late in the evening, so he's just getting them used to rising early so that they will make it to the water practices. Nice, eh? (Using my Cdn. slang there).

  5. I want to go thrifting with you! You always find the neatest things.

I like jeans and jean shorts. I never have any luck finding anything at the thrift stores. Being short, it seems jean designers and manufacturers think everyone has super long legs. The brand I have the most luck with is Bill Blass. I occasionally find them at TJMaxx or Marshall's in the $12.99 to $16.99 range. I had to bite the bullet and shell out more than I wanted for shorts recently. With my weight loss, I needed new ones. I am a very hard fit in the waist though. Lee turned out to be just right, but the prices ... OUCH! Thankfully I found a sale, but still.

Have a wonderful time at the concert. Sounds like it will be lovely.

  6. I'm was thinking about packing for our Philippine trip couple days ago & remembered that domestic flights have a weight limit of 15kg per suitcase. Did you know that already?

You'll have to repack your suitcases for the domestic flights if they are really 50lbs! Or, maybe you'll be allowed to pay extra for heavier suitcases instead of repacking them.
