Turning Forty

I turn forty today. I'm no longer a thirty something. I like it. I remember dreading turning thirty. It seemed so old! I can't say the same about turning forty. Perhaps it's because I now know better who I am. I know more of my strengths and weaknesses. There isn't the same kind of changes as in my early thirties. (Haha who am I kidding here! Our family is going to expand by three in a matter of months)!!  I have great friends who I believe in and who believe in me. We're there for each other when we need each other. They're my prayer warriors! Some of them I actually only know in the blogosphere, but a few of them I know in real life too.

When I was turning thirty, I didn't like the fact that I was "different" from what I called my peer group. Now I don't care. I no longer know who would be my peer group. I like that I have friends who although they are very different from me in some ways, respect and love me for who I am. Likewise, I respect and love them for who they are. They come from many places, many ages, but somewhere, somehow we share a common bond, whether it be our faith, our children, or a love of the same things.

I like my life! I like being home with my children. I like that I have/make time to make things, to read, and to learn new things. Are there some things I still want to change? You bet ya! I want to be more patient with my children. I want/need to get back into shape again. I have to remember that I need more sleep than I've been getting. I want to spend more time in prayer and God's Word.

I'm happy to be turning forty. I don't know if I'm excited about what the next decade holds and I'm glad I don't know what it is, but I do know that through it all, God will walk beside me. That being said, I want to wish you all a day filled with God's blessings and JOY!

Be blessed today, my friends!

  9. I loved turning 30. I felt like a grown up, but still young. Not so thrilled with the 40's, particularly since I'm 1/2 way done with them! Plus, my body is going to hell in a handbasket! LOL!

Enjoy your 40th, my friend! You've got a great attitude!

  16. Hope you had a wonderfully blessed birthday!! I agree that 40 is actually a pretty good age. There is definitely a maturity (in a good way!) that comes with it. I don't think any particular age has ever bothered me, although 45 was a little disconcerting. I'm not sure why. Though I don't think I want to say how old I'll be this year. Cuz it's starting to get a little freaky. Anyway, I do hope you had a lovely day!!

  18. Happy Birthday!! I consider you a friend even if I don't know you IRL. I love your post and your reflections! I had a terrible time of it when I turned 30. I am beginning to feel, several years later, that I'll be okay turning 40 just as you have written! Thanks for sharing your life!
