Book Review Saturday (Edition 7)

It's a little ironic that I at one point was reading Your Best Body Now by Tosca Reno at the same time as Passionate Housewives and Large Family Logistics. The latter two books talk about the how the wife needs to die to self, work selflessly, live selflessly, etc. all for the betterment of herself and her family. They say that "me time is very wrong", but Tosca Reno says that "me time" is important. I'm not saying that I fully agree with any of these women's philosophies, however, choosing to eat healthy and exercise, imho, is not considered ME time. It is for my health so that, the Lord willing, I will be around for a loooong time for my family. However, I KNOW that God designed me to not just need, but CRAVE time for me to be alone to create. The medium doesn't matter as long as there are snatches of time for me to see a project slowly (or sometimes quickly) take shape.  Well, enough about that, back to the book!

I love all of Tosca Reno's books. Although, as I already said,  I don't agree with everything she says. I love her encouraging message throughout the book, her tips and tricks for staying on track with eating properly and exercising, and her recipes are great!! I only wish she had more! Well that, and more ways to get enough protein in your diet when you're primarily vegetarian. The extra bonus that I appreciate with Your Best Body Now is that she has a list of weight training/muscle toning exercises that can be done with or without fancy gym equipment. I've discovered that several of my workout DVD's incorporate very similar exercises, so it's exciting for me to know that I don't have pay to go to a gym to get a good workout. This way I can work out in my pyjamas if I want too :oD! Is it just me, or does anyone else work out in their pyjamas?

Happy reading!

  1. Deborah,
I have enjoyed reading your book reviews. I believe that as moms we have a tremendous job (whether we work only inside the home or also outside the home) raising our children and making a house a godly home. Time alone to meditate, read, pray and time do enjoy things that nurture your own soul is crucial for mental sanity. I found long ago if I didn't take care of me, then I had nothing to give to those that I love with all my heart. It's a balance, for sure. And taking care of our bodies is a balance, too. It takes time to plan, create and serve healthy meals. It takes time and energy to exercise and maintain our bodies so that we can keep healthy.
I am always looking for a book that gives grreat advice on staying the course as that is my hardest struggle in maintaining a heathy balance of eating right and exercising.
Thank you so much for sharing with your readers.
    Hope you day goes well

  2. Oh dear. I have a feeling after reading this that when I eventually get around to reading Passionate Housewives that I am going to want to throw it out the window in a fit. LOL I believe "me" time is very important and have been realizing that more and more as I just don't seem to get any peace to myself and am seeing how negatively it is affecting me in so many ways. With that aside, the actual book you've reviewed is one I saw at Sam's recently and wondered about (didn't have time to even flip through it). I so appreciate you sharing all your thoughts!
