1000 Gifts

holy experience

Psalm 16

Keep me safe O God,
for in you I take refuge.

I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing."

As for the saints who are in the land,
they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.

The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods.
I will not pour out the libations of blood or take up their libations of blood
or take up their names on my lips.

Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup;
you have made my lot secure.

The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places.
surely I have a delightful inheritance.

I will praise the Lord who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.

I have the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

You have made known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

I have been going through the Psalms in my morning quiet time. I am reminded again of what a wise man David was, yet not without fault. If God loves him, then surely He loves me too.

Another encouragement came from the devotional I like to read. "Being patient for God's perfect timing is difficult, but it's always worth the wait."

Still enjoying a beautiful farmer's market bouquet of flowers from a friend.

Puppy snores.

Tissues. There is a cold going around our home these days.

Swiss chard chips. They are really very good.

Gardening in the quiet and stillness of an overcast afternoon.

Harvest.

Fresh fall vegetables: squash, zucchinis, sweet potatoes...

Rain. It deterred our geocaching, but it was appreciated none the less.

Quiet. Continuous hours of silence.

  3. It was in good timing that I read this today. I had just closed my Psalm Bible Study (preparing for the evening) and was going to read a couple of blogs before I moved on to the next task. So I opened it back up and read Ps 16 as you wrote!

    Beautiful.

    Thank you!

  5. Deborah,
    That is one of my favorite Psalms. I especially like the verse that says "The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places.
    surely I have a delightful inheritance." It's so true, isn't it. We are so very blessed and have so many gifts that we can count each and every day.
    I join you in gratitude for a farmers market and for freshly grown veggies.
    I hope you have a wonderful week, friend!
    grace to you
