Great Grandma's Party

Great Grandma has actually gone to be with Jesus three years ago already, but we still call the annual gathering of the vdG clan, Great Grandma's Party. I don't know how many there are now, but at the time of her death, there were 44 grand children and 103 great grandchildren. She died at the ripe old age of ninety-eight.

Each year family come from far and near to get together for a lunch of KFC and sandwiches. Mostly everyone is looking more forward to the desserts that are served immediately after lunch. This year there was family from as far as the country of Belize and some that lived a mere 10 minutes away.

For us it is approximately a 2hr drive depending on the snow conditions, and most years there are snow conditions. This year was no exception. In the 18 years that I have been attending this event with the Engineer I think we have missed three times. Twice to snowstorms and once to a three week old baby. Usually we leave home under sunny skies and approximately forty-five minutes into the drive, we hit the first streamer blowing in off the lake. This time it was more like an hour into the drive.

God has continued to watch over us all these years as we drive back and forth in one day, for food games and fellowship. I pray we will be able to attend many more years of Great Grandma's Party.

Bub doing his favorite things: eating, reading, and growing. (He's the same height as the Engineer and I already and outgrown his clothes twice since August).

The girls playing games with second cousins.

Peach's double, Miss E. The vdG genes run strong. Although Peach somehow missed the true vdG brown eyes and has hazel instead.

  2. Oh Deborah, I love your visits to my blog and I LOVE visits to yours! The granny party sounds wonderful - family love through and through! The desserts make me hungry for an evening snack. Good thing I already brushed my teeth and have my retainer in! Thank you for your prayers for Bill and Jeff. They'll go to Cambodia and then on to Cebu in the Philippines. After that, Thailand and then Japan. Thank you for your warm wishes for me, going back to school tomorrow. It'll be nice to see the kids. Bless you! I hope you guys have a happy, learning, loving week!

  3. How wonderful and what a snow storm you braved there looks like it was certainly worth driving in that blizzard. The children do grow so quickly Anna did something similar with her clothing and jumped a few sizes. Loved the pictures Thanks for sharing Blessings Heather :)
