GEMS

After tonight, we only have four more weeks left of GEMS. Although I have enjoyed it very much, I am looking forward to a break. Mondays are always such a busy day and to have to be out the door in the evening before six always makes it that much busier.

We are working on a few things to be completed for GEMS Sunday and our open house, as well as some badge work, are going to have a scrapbooking night yet, as well as an afternoon of bowling and pizza.

Last Monday, we let the girls paint their toe nails and wear their fashionable flip flops for a little photo session. Our theme this year is "Walk the Micah Road", taken from Micah 6:8 "To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God." GEMS celebrates fifty years this year and this has been the official GEMS verse for all those years. Our group of grade five girls did a special badge this year to celebrate the fifty years. Lots of things have changed, but the most important thing has not and that is teaching these girls the love of our Lord and Saviour.

Above are pictured the scarves that were and still are part of the GEMS uniforms. The top one is mine. If you look at it closely, you'll see it says Calvinettes. That's what GEMS used to be called. On the left hand side, you'll see a small round badge that says 25. That is the 25 year anniversary badge.

On Peach's scarf below, her 50 year anniversary badge is on the right. It is the bright pink heart with the yellow running through it. You can't really tell, but the word 50 years is written in white on the yellow.

I think it is pretty amazing that my girls are now involved in the same club that I was when I was their age. Even better, I'm involved again some twenty five years later as a leader.

  1. That's cool! I should dig out my scarf too--it's with Pete's old Cadet sash.

Claire wears jeans and a blue tie-dyed shirt for GEMS. I was NEVER allowed to wear that. No more white blouse and skirts!
