First Cut

It is not at all unusual for us to mow the lawn already this time of the year, but it's funny to think that barely two weeks ago, there was still snow on the ground in places. I made our first cut yesterday. Some spots are still very patchy, but deep in our back yard is the thickest, most lush green grass I have ever seen. You can almost hear the mower groan as you ride through it with the blades spinning.

I love the smell of a freshly mowed lawn. Someone should consider making air fresheners with that scent. There must be a way to preserve it for those of us who crave that scent in the middle of winter. Although, I guess if there was, someone would have come up with it by now. I'll just have to enjoy that scent when I can.

Now there are signs of spring everywhere. The birds are busy building their nests. The daffodils are bloming and the crocuses are almost bloomed out! My rhubarb is up and filling out nicely. Mmmm! Fresh rhubarb pie will soon grace our table. I can hardly wait!

  1. Yumm! I love strawberry rhubarb pie! We haven't had to cut the grass yet but I think it will be a matter of days.
